Move #1
Master knowing yourself.
Knowing yourself is rarely talked about in business circles, but it's impossible to think ahead without self-awareness. Once you definitively decide who you want to be, which direction to take will become much more clear, as well as why it matters.
Move #2
Master the ability to reason.
How to process issues, & having a methodology for making decisions are important. No decision is ever black-and-white, and if you can learn to see all shades of gray, that will help u move forward decisively, even in the face of uncertainty.

In 2019, I was browsing at the Crossword bookstore when I stumbled upon a beautiful poem. I added the book to my wishlist, but unfortunately, it remained there for quite some time. Despite searching for it at various locations, I could not find it.
After a considerable amount of time, I was finally able to locate the book in an online store. The long wait is over, and I am eager to have it in my possession finally. It's time to dive into its pages and get lost in its words.

"Good Economics for Hard Times" by Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo is a comprehensive guide to modern economic theory. The book discusses various topics, including democracy, migration, comparative advantages, and the impact of community on individuals. #bookreview #BookTwitter Image
The book starts with a quote from a mathematician/physicist who challenges Paul Samuelson to "name me one proposition in all of the social sciences which is both true and non-trivial."

Based on my knowledge thus far, I do not think there is a valid answer to this question.
The book discusses how democracy has the ability to handle dissent and different opinions. The author mentions the increasing ideological polarization and the shrinking social space for having dissenting views, even in democratic countries.

📚 Just finished reading - "Psychology of Money" by @morganhousel.

Highly recommend even if you are not heavily in finances and usually go for passive avenues.

Here's what I learnt in a distilled form👇

#PsychologyofMoney #BookReview Image
This book is a masterclass of the psychological factors that influence how people make decisions about their money. 🤑

It dives deep into the ways in which people's emotions and cognitive biases impact their financial behavior. 📊
Some key concepts include cognitive biases and heuristics, which are mental shortcuts that people use to make decisions about their money. 🔜

It can lead people to make irrational decisions, such as overconfidence in their ability to predict future financial events. 💬

“Technology Is Not Neutral” by @hare_brain
London Publishing Partnership

Here are my takeaways 🧶 + bonus track Image
Is Technology good or bad? We might refine our question further. For whom is it good or bad? Under what conditions is it good or bad? What unintended consequences might there be to using it? We’re confronted by trade-offs between security, privacy and freedom.
🤷‍♀️Are we Humans?
Tech is part of what makes us human. Only some of us create tech but we all use it, and we all have it used on us, sometimes without our knowledge and consent. Tech is at the interface between citizens and governments, btw consumers and companies...

Your Dharma and Mine - Shatavadhani Dr. R. Ganesh

A book that makes the reader contemplate on every single word, a truly genius of a book.

I wouldn’t even dare to even think of rating this book, but yet it has maximum stars for me & beyond

Dharma, what does it mean? What does it signify? For such existential questions, one definite reference is this book by Dr. Ganesh. Samanya Dharma which is the core tenet of our lives is discussed in very fine detail.

The author has quoted multiple sources including Samhitas, Arayanakas, Upanishads, Srimad Bhagwad Gita, Puranas like Agni Purana, Mahabharatha, Yajnyavalkya Smriti, Manu Smriti, Apastamba-dharma-sutra to name a few.

Bravehearts of Bharat - @vikramsampath

An impulsive purchase from @PadhegaIndia_ , this book is a treasure trove of gems from our history. A highly recommended MUST read / must have in collection

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

Review below 👇

History is filled with multiple stories of quite well known personalities. However, there are quite a large number whose stories are not widely known to the general populace.

This anthology of 15 such Bravehearts tries to bridge this vacuum to some extent.

Beautifully curated accounts of 15 personalities across geography and time, with quite a equanimous representation of women, this book gives a crisp into the background, lives and contributions of these personalities in the annals of Indian history.

If you perfectly combine history, geography, science, mythology, and fiction, you'll have a delicious book cocktail. Aside from the Bharat series, there is no such thing as a perfect book cocktail.

The seventh book in the Bharat series is The Magicians of Mazda.
Books in the Bharat series are, as usual, very catchy. I'm accustomed to finishing Ashwinji's book faster than others. When I start reading any book in the Bharat series, my reading speed increases, and I try to finish the last chapter as soon as possible.

Inked In India by @bibekdebroy sir and Suvon Roy

This is literally a history book with such rich details, it leaves one contemplating with a question: What if

FP collectors can relate to some if not the entire gamut of timeline presented here

Tracing the various pen manufacturers and ink companies from 19th century onwards, this book highlights the industry as a whole detailing about early entrepreneurs & their various experiences.

One of the chapters that makes for fascinating read is the one on Mahatma Gandhi & Ambedkar.

While MKG was against fountain pens and preferred reed pens to symbolise village industry, Ambedkar's preference for pens makes a fascinating read.

#Ikigai by Hector Garcia Puigcerveri has been one of the most talked about books of the 21st Century century.

5 timeless lessons to learn from the book. A thread.
1. Find a #purpose in life.

“essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.”

“Be led by your curiosity, and keep busy by doing things that fill you with meaning and happiness.”
2. Be with your loved ones.

“Talking each day with people you love, that’s the secret to a long life”

“We all get together here and talk - it’s very important. I always know I’ll see them all here tomorrow, and that’s one of my favorite things in life”

Enjoying this biography of Bellah by Matteo Bortolini of the U of Padua. It's very well written for a sociologist, much less one who I assume is not a native English speaker. It is a full biography not just an intellectual biography.
TIL: Bellah's father abandoned his family and committed suicide, leading him to be renamed Robert Neeley. He was a competitive individualist in HS. And he served a year in the Army after he arrived at Harvard. Image

5 Takeaways from the Book "Rework"!! 📚

[A Thread 🧵]

#bookreview #rework #business
1. ASAP is poison. 🚫

The term "as soon as possible" has no defined definition. As a result, you may not be able to precisely prioritise items in this case.
2. Meetings are toxic.🤝

We just debate, compare, and quarrel in meetings, and we pay less attention to work. On the contrary, if we want anything useful to happen, we should organise workshops.
