5 Takeaways from the Book "Rework"!! 📚

[A Thread 🧵]

#bookreview #rework #business
1. ASAP is poison. 🚫

The term "as soon as possible" has no defined definition. As a result, you may not be able to precisely prioritise items in this case.
2. Meetings are toxic.🤝

We just debate, compare, and quarrel in meetings, and we pay less attention to work. On the contrary, if we want anything useful to happen, we should organise workshops.

📘 The Psychology of Money by @morganhousel

Theme: This book highlights how to make better financial decisions and financial lessons on how to deal with money.

Quotes I liked the most -
1️⃣ Controlling your time is the highest dividend money pays.
2⃣ History never repeats itself; man always does.

3⃣ Spending money to show people how much money you have is the fastest way to have less money.

4⃣ There is no reason to risk what you have and need for what you don’t have and don’t need.
5⃣ Luck and risk are siblings. They are both the reality that every outcome in life is guided by forces other than individual effort.

6⃣ Planning is important, but the most important part of every plan is to plan on the plan not going according to plan.

After 1.5 years of working as a #history #BookReview Editor, I have some thoughts about how this whole thing works.

Authors, I know you're eager to see reviews of your book (I am too), but there are a lot of factors that are hard to control... 1/🧵
First, book reviews don't happen without books. I can't send a book out for review if I don't receive it. I receive a lot of unsolicited books, which is great. I also request books from presses when I learn about them. Not all presses are super responsive. 2/
As an author, you need to be proactive. Make sure your press is sending out copies of your book. Contact book review editors to offer a copy, or to put us in touch with your press' PR person. 3/

I have an annual book reading average of 30+ and 2021 was no different. So, I thought I'd post (for the first time) my top ten books of the year. I tend to read a diverse array, from philosophy and epistemology to science and current issues. So, not in any particular order..
This book written by Rob Brotherton (@rob_brotherton) was a fantastic read on why people believe in conspiracy theories, and how we are all prone to nonsensical thinking - it's not just an affliction of people on the fringes of society wearing tinfoil hats
In a similar fashion, Michael Shermer (@michaelshermer) tackles the psychology and neurobiology of why we believe in pseudoscientific nonsense and unsupported claims

#BookReview Isavasyopanishad, An English Commentary By Nithin Sridhar

In this #Thread, we shall take a deep-dive into the book through the excellent review of the book by Shivakumar GV @SaamaanyaJ

@IndicaBooks #book
At the outset, it seems like a shift in his focus, a leap into the Paramartha. However, from this review it will be clear that a singular focus and concern is driving all his writings. The ‘Paramartha Chintana’ is very much part of ‘Purushartha Chintana’.
Bharateeya Parampara does not see the two any differently. The ‘Iha’ and the ‘Para’ are always together.

The former is organized towards the latter. The latter shapes the former.

The Upanishad he has chosen is ‘Isavasyopanishad’

Good evening.

I’m back with another #BookReview, although this one will feel a little different to others I have written previously.

This evening I am posting a review of Paul Ham’s “Sandakan: The Untold Story of the Sandakan Death Marches”

2/ Having read a number of books covering Japanese War Crimes in the Second World War, I felt well prepared to return to the subject after many years absence. In one sense I felt that I was inoculated against the horror and that there was little left to shock me.

I was wrong.
3/ The subject matter of Sandakan makes for grim reading. Unsurprisingly I will not be including the usual range of photos that I would usually include in a book review, save for the book’s cover and a map to highlight the area being discussed.
