China isn't forcing America to become an agricultural colony. You fell over yourself to ship your industry to China so your rich could become richer. You got paid for what you gave up and your rich people are still being paid. Ask Tim Cook.

Also, I remember when the US forced Canada to give up the best part of its aviation industry. The threat was completely naked, we were forced to destroy the planes and sink them in a fucking lake.

I lived in BC, the BC panhandle exists because TDR threatened military force.
The IMF, which was ruled by the US forced many companies to open their sectors to US/Euro competition, including food, and destroyed them. They also forcefully ended food subsidies in 3rd world countries, causing much hunger. The US was and still is a hegemon.
As for Canadian and Europeans being cowards when facing China, well, yes, they are. Why? Because they were trained in their careers to never stand up to the US either. They spent their lives being cowards. You expect them to be brave now? @matthewstoller
Only Pierre Trudeau in the 70s (a man very unlike his son) and Chretien in the early 2000s stood up to the US. Chretien only did when he was a lame duck: his career was over and he didn't give a fuck any more. Thank God, or we would have gone into Iraq.
The EU leadership are classic bullies. They kick down to the weak, like the Greeks, and they pucker up for the powerful, like China. They are beginning to stand up to America though, because you are looking weak.

When you rule by fear, better stay on top.
Capitalists will always turn traitor to their country if the incentives are high enough. Brits sold Americans their industry; Americans sold China their industry.

It's part of the ideology. Money always trumps any other loyalty to a real capitalist.
If you want a capitalist to not betray you they must either fear you more than they want money OR you must offer more money than they can get by betraying you.

It isn't more complicated than that.
Capitalism is an algorithim. If you can make more money doing A than B, you must do A. And if A means betraying your country, or destroying the ability of the Earth to support human life, that's just too bad, it WILL BE DONE.
Violence trumps the profit motive. And by violence I mean "if you do that, we will throw you into a prison". Nothing else does. Certainly not "patriotism".
(Well, not for a capitalist, or anyone who wants to survive as a capitalist.)
