1/ Thread on the current situation with Saudi Arabia. Conservatives always have and will always raise human rights, gender equality, and religious freedom with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
2/ We continue to call for clemency in the case of Raif Badawi and are deeply concerned by the recent detention of his sister, Samar Badawi.
3/ We expect the Liberals to bring about a positive resolution to this crisis that protects both human rights and any impacted Canadian workers.
4/ These disproportionate retaliatory actions by Saudi Arabia could impact many front line heath care professionals in Canada and will likely have significant impacts on other parts of our economy.
5/ With regard to the Liberals record on human rights, Canadians expect their government to stand up for Canadian values and for human rights around the world. However, the Liberals’ approach to human rights advocacy has been inconsistent.
6/ The Liberals were initially silent on Saudi Arabia’s nomination to the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
7/ The Liberals have taken no action to condemn the violent and oppressive Iranian regime, despite the House of Commons’ clear director for them to do so.
8/ The Liberals defeated a Conservative motion declaring ISIS atrocities against Yazidis, Christians, and other religious minorities as genocide.
9/ The Liberals have shown a pattern of failure on diplomatic efforts which stems from using social media and photo ops instead of effective diplomatic engagements to advance Canadian values and interests.
10/ From angering Asia Pacific partners like Australia, New Zealand and Japan to the Prime Minister’s failed visits to India and China, the Liberal approach to diplomacy is failing.
11/ Canadian is becoming excluded from the table for NAFTA renegotiations, and the US does not appear willing to weigh in on Canada’s dispute with the Saudis.
12/ A Conservative government led by Andrew Scheer will always advance human rights and the rule of law as part of Canadian foreign policy based on our values and interests.
13/ We expect the Liberals to expeditiously resolve this situation.
