One thing Facebook and Twitter share in common is that they have socialized the high costs of a tech bro's journey of philosophical self-discovery. The core crisis here is not about free speech or disinformation, but accountability and governance.
It's like one of those absolute monarchies where a boy-king gets the throne and proves to be out of his depth. We can hope for better boy-kings; we can hope that @jack listens to the right audiobook. Or we can dismantle the system where a single tech bro makes these decisions
And I'm sorry to say that part of the blame here lies on Twitter employees, who have been complaining bitterly for two years or more inside the company, but have not done anything to rein in their CEO's poor judgement, or even make him work at Twitter full-time
