Since Democrats have more faith in Amazon(!) than any other institution, let's crack open the sarcophagus of their September FEC filing and see what horrors stream forth
(In my other threads on tech donations, commenters accused me of bias because I'm only enumerating donations to far-right Republicans. But donations to Democrats are not some kind of political anti-matter that makes it okay to give money to homophobes, racists and woman-haters.)
So the first thing to note is that Amazon is donating to Republican incumbents in some of the closest House races in the country, places where every dollar matters. Here's Amazon giving $2500 to Pete Roskam in a hotly contested Illinois race.
Here's a $1500 donation to Scott Tipton in the CO-3 race (rated as a toss-up by @FiveThirtyEight). This one particularly rankles because so many of us tech workers have been working our hearts out to fundraise for Tipton's progressive opponent, @RepDBM
Here's Amazon giving to Tom Reed, who is running against another Great Slate candidate, @TracyMitrano, in a very close race in upstate New York.
Just to switch it up, here's Amazon making the max donation to Dan Lipinski, the anti-abortion Democrat in a completely safe Chicago seat.
Former teacher Linda Coleman is in a super tight North Carolina House race against Republican George Holding. Amazon gave him $2000.
Here's Amazon giving the maximum donation to William Hurd in Texas's 23rd district. This is an R+1 district, once again one of the closest House races in the country.
Tom Marino was so compromised by his efforts to weaken the DEA's power to fight the opioid crisis that he had to withdraw his nomination as Trump's Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Amazon gave him $2500
Mark Meadows chairs the Freedom Caucus and has asked Donald Trump to get rid of all federal funding to study climate change. There's really too much to summarize... read his positions here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Mead… Amazon gave $1500 to his re-election campaign.
Asked in a newspaper interview about his refusal to do town halls, Mike Bost explained "You know the cleansing that the Orientals used to do where you'd put one person out in front and 900 people yell at them? That's not what we need." Amazon gave his campaign $1000 last month.
"In defending a proposal to cut access to the SNAP program (food stamps), Jodey Arrington cited the biblical passage Thessalonians 3-10. "He says even when we were with you we give you this rule, 'If a man will not work he shall not eat.'" Amazon gave him $1000 he didn't work for
CNN story last year: "Rep. Mark Walker, the chair of the conservative Republican Study Committee, described female members of the group as the committee's "eye candy" during a press conference Tuesday morning." Amazon gave him $1000 last month.
Here's Amazon in August making a maximum $5000 donation to Roger Wicker, the only U.S. Senator to vote against an amendment declaring that climate change is real. Wicker also votes against all gun safety bills, including background checks, and has an A+ rating from the NRA
