I took a look at this thread with fresh eyes today and this guy is still doesn't get it.

A few thoughts follow....
1. From the Mahmudiyah rape and killings in 2006 to the Afghanistan kill teams in 2010, units like those @JesseKellyDC describes--full of mindless "killers" and "savages"--are always the worst units.
2. Good units are led by professionals who adjust as situations demand. They have lots of tools in the combat toolbox--from language skills to marksmanship to just plain empathy. And when they're forced to use violence, they use the minimum force necessary (even when it's a lot).
3. Physical strength is important, but it's just one component of what it takes to survive in combat. By far, the most important skill in combat is mature, thoughtful decision making. Being able to size up a dangerous situation and make the right decision is indispensable.
4. And when all you have is @JesseKellyDC's "neanderthal" hammer, your options are limited and your troops are at greater danger.

Why? Because fights break out when they shouldn't.
5. Good infantry units handle emotional guys like @JesseKellyDC by either putting them under the best squad leader for adult supervision or by kicking them out.
6. Any soldier who proudly refers to himself as a "neanderthal" is a liability in combat. I served with some of the best infantrymen, NCOs and officers in Iraq and Afghanistan and none behaved the way @JesseKellyDC believes they should.
Man, @JesseKellyDC went all quiet on me all of a sudden. Where's all your Twitter friends from yesterday? Not gonna share this thread with them?
