Many people are surprised when I tell them that @SenWarren was an active Republican untill 1996.

When I do, few question Sen. Warren's loyalty to either progressive values or the Democratic Party. Because that would be stupid.

There are many examples of people from both parties crossing party lines and joining the oppositional party. Many continue to have successful political careers representing their new party.

Warren is one of those examples.

Often the words were accompanied by claims that she had voted for him.

Always they were intended to insinuate that Clinton's past support of the Republican Party proves her loyalties have never shifted.

Yes, they want us to believe that Hillary Clinton, perhaps the most loyal, most unflinching Democrat I know is a Republican.

Yes, Clinton, as she herself admits, once considered herself a Republican. But when she was nineteen she found it impossible to cont to support the Party's policies or leaders &- exited.

Yes, @HillaryClinton abandoned a political affiliation on moral grounds at nineteen.

Not only did she abandon that affiliation, she joined the Democratic Party and went straight to work on fighting against much of what Republicanism promoted.

By the summer of 1968 a twenty one year old Hillary Rodham was in Texas helping register Latino voters for McGovern.

It would be easy to ascribe this to the progressive purist agenda, it's enforcers, afterall, mostly float in Sanders orbit, and are some of Clinton's harhest critics. And while that certainly was a part of this, there is more to it.

This was a created narrative. None of the facts or memes these people share about this bear much resemblance to the truth. They modify almost every part of story, from her age at certain points in the story to a vote for Goldwater, which was impossible for her at seventeen.

It was not only created, it was also adopted by many and has since become an unofficial anti-Clinton talking point which is hauled out by Sanders' supporters whenever they back themselves into another corner.

It's part of a larger strategy to defame and weaken Clinton in everyway possible and is almost self-conscious of the hypocrisy it engages the entire time.

The right & left have constantly attempted to make Clinton appear corrupt / disloyal by adjusting expectations of her.

"Clinton is unelectable " though she won (or tied) the popular vote in every election she's run.

"Clinton is corrupt" because she refuses to release transcripts to paid speeches when no male has ever been asked to do the same, also Bernie's taxes.

"Clinton isn't a real Democrat" because she wasn't one since the moment of conception.

It remarkable that so many fall for this insanity, and depressing that so few come to her defense.
