Shortcuts beta 4 is up! Pretty awesome changes:

- iCloud sync! (It merges across devices the first time it seems)
- Health, clipboard, location actions work in Siri
- Shortcuts with UIs now shown in the app
- Link sharing coming back soon (per release notes)
Big improvements to the Dictate Text action in Shortcuts beta 4 – dictation can now stop automatically after a pause AND you can dictate from the widget (!!). This is very very good.
Other highlights from Shortcuts beta 4:

- Shortcuts with custom Siri responses now fully supported on watchOS 5 without errors
- All HealthKit actions work in Siri (Get Location still doesn't though)
- More old actions have been restored (Dropbox not yet)

Welp, iCloud on all my devices (iPhone XS Max, iPad Pro, Mac mini) has started randomly not syncing some things.

Reminders and HomeKit scenes different across devices. Photos and notes are fine.

After signing out and back in, iPhone told me it hadn’t backed up in 4 weeks 🤔
The iPhone is now stuck on doing this backup, saying “2 hours remaining”, and it’s not moving at all (I have a fiber connection).

I have already tried signing out of iCloud and back in everywhere. Honestly not sure what to do except hope it’ll fix itself eventually 🙁
Deleted all my previous incomplete backups, now stuck like this after 90 minutes. Will keep checking later today. 🤔

Shortcuts 2.1 beta 2 is out! Some great changes in this one:

- New actions to create alarms and timers directly in the app
- New Measurement actions
- Better AirPlay integration via HomePod
- New controls to stop sharing a shortcut
With the new Clock actions, it is possible to build simple but effective Pomodoro-style timers in Shortcuts.

You can also create “goodnight” routines more easily by toggling specific alarms directly 👍
Here are the new sharing controls in Shortcuts 2.1 b2. Reopen an iCloud link you previously shared to get an option to delete the link and wipe data from iCloud.

I firmly believe Photoshop on iPad is just the first big example of a shift that will occur in the 3 years with more desktop apps coming to iPad Pro.

Subscriptions, USB-C, cloud files, and more powerful iOS multitasking are accelerating this transition.

i.e. If your files are always in a cloud, and if an app is the same client everywhere thanks to a subscription, and if you have an iPad with a Pencil/trackpad and powerful enough to output 4K to an external display, at which point do you just have a Mac in a different shell?
In other words, this would be the ideal scenario I've been building towards since I effectively stopped using a Mac in 2014.

I want an iPad Pro that can become "a Mac" when *I need it to be* while still being a tablet for everything else. And I believe it's going to happen.

The Village Voice played a very profound role in my family’s history (and other histories as well). In 1963, my Grandfather was riding in a cab in Soho and reading the Voice and he saw an ad.
That ad in the Voice had been placed by Andy Warhol, this was apparently a thing he would do as one of his is-it-a-joke-or-not type things. Sometimes he’d promise to endorse any brand for ex.
Anyway in this case the ad said that Warhol would trade his artwork for “anything.”

My grandparents at that point had a company they had founded called Best Products. It was a catalogue showroom business (like IKEA but for a range of goods).

Why not just go speak to the Grand Jury? Clearly, it's not about avoiding spending more time talking about the investigation and your experience...
