Glad people are talking Norway, but that Nick Boles Brexit plan is bananas.
We've asked the EU to dedicate massive resources to negotiations, which we would now just throw away and start again.
Then we'd be asking them & others to somehow organise a new relationship in a few months: Efta membership, plus EEA membership, plus a bespoke customs union bolt-on, plus a free movement emergency break for all Efta EEA members, with associated reciprocal measures.
And that wouldn't even be the final deal. It'd just be a transition to Canada, which he envisages for the future relationship.
All this, btw, is to buy time to prepare for no-deal. So not only would EU plus Efta have to do it, they'd be doing it in order to minimise their own negotiating leverage.
Just consider for a moment: why would anyone do this? And tellingly: how completely oblivious to your negotiating partner's interests do you have to be to presume that they would?
These kinds of proposals are the product of a hopelessly inward-looking political debate. No-one who'd given a thought to what they thought in Europe would propose it.
That's the trouble with ignorance. It's not just wrong on its own terms. It also makes you ineffective.
