Demonstrations against SDF spread again along the Euphrates valley (Bayt 'Uqaydat and Bayt Baqarah) and the lower Khabur valley in Dayr az-Zawr.

These protests are mostly against the rule of the SDF and the lack of services like water supply.
Demonstrations took place in al-Jiyah directly north of DeZ against the killing of a man (exact circumstances unclear).

In Abu Naytal, a village on the Khabur with many IS supporters that is making problems since months, there tensions occured as well.
Village youth attacked a SDF patrol in the desert. After this, SDF surrounded the village and arrested two men.

Protests in Suwaydan (another town where IS lately ambushed and killed SDF members) targeted SDF for theft in the local shops and accused them of killing a young man.
Further protests, in which locals where blocking the main road and burned tires, occured in al-Hissan, a neighboring village of al-Jiyah.

Residents accused Asayish of killing a member of the DMC, when they searched his house in charges of theft.

Now, a few thoughts from my side, beginning with the last incident. I think there it is possible that the DMC member was armed and probably attacked the Asayish members that were trying to search his house.

And now on the more general thoughts:
Locals are actually very hypocritical, bringing SDF in an unsolvable dilemma.

When YPG is too present in the area, they scream bloody murder about Kurdish occupation. On the other hand, when SDF leaves responsibility to DMC, tribal units loot in in other tribal areas bc of feuds
And when SDF acts against the wrongdoers, the affected tribe actually feels treated unfairly.
This occured many times and no matter what SDF does, they do it wrong.

This is one of the problems of this tribalist, and yes, racist, landscape.
There is no threat of SDF somehow "Kurdifying" these lands. The pupils will be educated in Arabic just as before and it will not be forbidden to give children Arabic names or in general practice Arab culture.
Interestingly, when Kurds were subjected to these hardships I just named under the Ba'thist rule, these very tribes supported it staunchly.
And now the second main point:
The protests against SDF mainly criticize lacking services and actions like arrests.
But the locals ignore, that the lack of service is caused by an inability of the civil council to act, as the area is badly infested with IS cells, which commit attacks in a frequency that comes close to an insurgency.

There are already many casualties among SDF.
But IS sleeper cells can only exist in such a number when there is cooperation within the civil population.
There are other Arab areas like the ones inhabited by Shammar that don't have this problems, as there is cooperation with SDF and a staunch enmity towards the IS.
So instead of protesting, they should start to cooperate with SDF in order to remove first the IS cells and then the lack of service.

The question is, how many are willing to do this?
