1) Leave supporters and "what we voted for"
@andrew_lilico here really highlighting a strange phenomenon I've seen a lot of in #Brexit supporters, a marked inability to see any variation in the leave vote

He says "We are not...", But we *know* these things apply to many leavers
@andrew_lilico 2) we know that some leave voters believed we could have the exact same benefits on leaving the EU, so were in fact naive.
We know leavers were lied to, by liars, about those exact same benefits
It's pointless arguing that no leave voters is xenophobic

@andrew_lilico 3) it's true that not all of these characteristics apply to all Leave voters, and it may be true that none of them apply to @andrew_lilico (though to be fair some of his blogs are pretty naive, and he believes in a post empire "Anglosphere" so...)

However
@andrew_lilico 4) it's clearly bonkers to pretend that Leavers are all one homegenous group with a realistic view of the impacts of Brexit, a pragmatic attitude to compromise & a complete absence of xenophobic tendencies

They aren't, the leave vote is splintered
@andrew_lilico 5) any analysis of the Leave vote shows this, some priotise immigration, others free trade deals, others minimising impact

Many have unrealistic expectations that WTO will be "just fine" or even preferable. Others couldn't care less, they'd see the country burn to get Brexit
@andrew_lilico 6) but this attitude from Lilico, "everyone thinks like me" is actually very common in Leavers. Typically they will say "what we voted for" not "what I voted for"
80% of Leavers I've come across believe all leavers think like they do, and have the same priorities
@andrew_lilico 7) perhaps this is why #Brexit is so hard.
Every Leaver wants specific things, there's probably 100 varieties of priorities

Some have gone through an internal justification
Others just think "just get on with it"
@andrew_lilico 8) but most of them honestly believe what they voted for is what *everyone* voted for, and have no apparent awareness that others had different priorities
@andrew_lilico 9) so why does Lilico tweet this? Why pretend that everyone thinks like him?

Perhaps he really believes it?

perhaps he's just gaslighting?

Perhaps he's just desperate as he can see #Brexit slipping away?
End
