A few observations and reflections based on the Slaughter of the Innocents story in Matthew 2: (1) The authentic worship of Jesus has always been, and will always be, a disturbance and threat to worldly powers (vv 3, 16).
(2) The pursuit and preservation of power commonly results in violence toward the most vulnerable in society (v 16). (3) In particular, children have always been sacrificed at the altar of power (v 16).
(4) Herod is the New Pharaoh (cf Exod 1:22) and Jesus the New Moses who leads his people in a New Exodus and true Restoration (vv 15, 18; cf Jer 31:16-17). (5) Demonic schemes often hide behind counterfeit worship (v 8; cf Matt 26:49).

Swinging through the Nat’l Museum of American History with my kids this morning, I came across an exhibition I hadn’t seen before: “Righting a Wrong: Japanese Americans and World War II.” It explores the forced incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry from 2/19/42 to 9/4/45.
After FDR signed Executive Order 9066, nearly 75,000 American citizens of Japanese ancestry, and another 45,000 Japanese nationals living in the U.S., were taken into custody and placed in prison camps. What these camps actually were was cloaked in euphemistic language—still is.
Families were removed forcibly (“relocated”) from their homes and livelihoods. Their U.S. citizenship was effectively null and void. So was their dignity as persons.

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."
