I have been a poll watcher at 3 places in the last 16 hours (we still had early voting). People should report where the bottlenecks are. My hypothesis is Boards of Elections planned for a normal mid-term level... /1
...and turnout is way higher so they are not staffed enough. Voters need to plan for longer lines, and to stay in line. We also need poll watchers to be assertive and call in concerns so that things can be fixes. /2

In Portland today, 16 foreign-trained immigrant nurses graduated from an innovative new re-entry program - the @IRCOnews Immigrant Nurse Credentialing Program.

Nurses from Ethiopia, Cuba, Ukraine, Japan & more will now be able to practice in the US.

This. is. America. 🇺🇸
I had am honored to have had a hand in starting this program, and the stories of these wonderful graduates today brought me to tears. Our healthcare industry is in desperate need of nurses, and yet we have these trained, diverse and multi-lingual nurses sitting on the bench.
Many of the nurses who graduated today have been working in jobs well below their skill level. This phenomenon, known as "brain waste", is rampant - and not exclusive to the health care industry.

The Wisconsin Legislature is getting a late start today for the lame duck session to restrict the powers of Gov.-elect Evers and Attorney General-elect Kaul. The Senate was scheduled to begin at 11, the Assembly at 1. Neither chamber is going yet.

THREAD: I’ve spent the last few weeks chatting with people about the upcoming #midterm elections. I’d like to share some of what I’ve heard and why this gives me so much hope.🇺🇸
I met these young women while walking my pups in my beachside community. For privacy reasons, I won’t share their real names (let’s call them “Julie” and “Amy”), but they graciously allowed me to share their stories.
One the best parts of walking my “boys” (Bowen and Bynum) is that I get to meet lots of strangers. I mean, who can resist these two?😍

Seriously, the pups break the ice, and as a consequence, I’ve met lots of interesting people.

Today's (10-31) Data Thread: NC's 2018 'early votes' are setting new #s in terms of absentee by mail & one-stop/in-person for a mid-term:

Over 1.4M requests have been made & returned & accepted (accepted mail not yet past 2014 total #s, but in-person has)

2018's absentee by mail ballots have slowed somewhat, & thus the #s have not yet reached 2014's #s.

But in absentee onestop/in-person ballots, NC has exceed 2014's #s for both requested & accepted.

Reminder: 2014 had 10 days of early voting & 2018 has 18 days.

1/Inside the numbers for Brian Kemp's almost unbelievable 40 point win in GA governor's runoff that was tied going into election. In primary Cagle drew 236,987 votes, Kemp drew 155,189, three remaining candidates drew 215,265. There was a 4% drop in votes cast.
2/In runoff Cagle drew 178,911 votes, losing to Kemp's 406,736. So ALL of the votes cast for the three losing primary candidates went to Kemp in the runoff, and ALL of the 4% drop in turnout came from Cagle's voters. Plus, new voters for Kemp would be required. How possible?
3/Cagle "collapse" is attributed to (a) a series of embarrassing taped conversations that painted him in unfavorable light, (b) a last minute endorsement by Donald Trump. They are both lockstep conservatives with otherwise indistinguishable policy positions. Both support Trump.
