[THREAD] You’re damn right it’s a thread. OH MY GOD. We’re taking the House. We’re taking the HOUSE.
When Trump was taking office and we were seeing the growing energy to resist, we said the House was in play. What about gerrymandering?? What about how bad midterms are for Dems?? But the energy on the ground was real - we saw it with our own eyes.
We saw that in response to something incredibly dark, and damaging, and corrupt, was this incredible equal and opposite reaction that was light, and protective, and righteous. That’s the force that won tonight.
Over the last few months, @leahgreenb and I traveled to meet with Indivisible groups in WA, OR, CA, AZ, CO, TX, LA, OH, TN, FL, GA, VA, MD, NJ, PA, NY, CT, and MA. I am so so so so proud of Indivisibles who have built this blue wave, drop by drop, doorknock by doorknock.
This was a huge historic victory for the broader grassroots resistance - this was much more than just @IndivisibleTeam.
Groups like @collectivePAC @latinovictory @MiFamiliaVota @unitedwedream @dreamdefenders who are recruiting, training, and building the emerging American electorate, at a time when our communities are under threat.
New groups like @swingleft, @dataforprogress, @runforsomething, @flippable, @sisterdistrict that have been recruiting volunteers, training candidates, and raising money to get a new generation of progressives elected.
Powerful historic groups like @popdemoc, @WorkingFamilies, @moveon, @ppact, @naral that partnered hand-in-glove with the new emergent energy to build a massive wave that no gerrymandered conservative seawall could stop.
The policy research orgs like @Demos_Org, @amprog, and @CenterOnBudget.The same people they helped get engaged to take down TrumpCare and make the tax scam a political liability were registering voters and GOTVing.
OK, so we did the damn thing. We did it together. As a result of this work, this is the beginning of the end of the Trump era. Incredible, inspiring new leaders aren't just going to "resist" Trump - they're going to lead us into the future.
This isn’t the end of the fight. Trump is going to react by doing something knee jerk and racist and offensive and damaging to us and the world. Count on it.
But tonight we get to celebrate what we’ve built together. 2 years we could have given in to cynicism and depression. But instead, in response to something incredible dark, hateful, and corrupt we've created an equal and opposite reaction that was bright, hopeful, and righteous.
I’ll drink to that. And I’ll drink to this: after 2 years of playing defense against Donny and his foot soldiers on Capitol Hill, we finally get to go on offense. Tonight we took the House. Next up, the White House. [/END]
