So a conservative think tank--that concentrates almost exclusively on domestic policy--puts on random anti-UAE and anti-Saudi conference, featuring several pro-Qatar lefties.

Who's funding this? Sounds like someone showed up with a satchel of dollars. ff.org/saudi-uae/
Conferences are hard. If an org decides to put on a random conference--and do all the work required in making it successful-- about something they don't have a record of really caring about, somebody showed up with money.
I like some of the people at the Frontiers of Freedom Foundation (@FoF_Liberty). I think they're good folks. What a mistake they made by allowing themselves to be used by Qatar or someone like this. They'll take a lot of heat--and for what?
.@FoF_Liberty I think you have a good org, but you made a mistake in taking money to put on this absurdly pro-Qatar conference.

The UAE angle is a giveaway. No serious Middle East expert would say UAE is a more troublesome ally than Qatar.

This will be embarrassing for you.
