... the use of an effective mixed economy model does not require a regime blighted by human rights abuse or willing to mistreat over 1M Uyghurs, anymore than democracy requires a laissez faire approach. These are false equivalence.
... it is perfectly possible to have a mixed economy model, with a strong directing Government under a democratic system that respects human rights.
There are certainly economic lessons to be learned from China, particularly in how it directs industrial and science policy. This does not mean that we should mimic or learn from China's approach in other areas. We should not.
