But there are dozens of House Rs who retired or lost reelection. Some will join the chorus.
It’s not about getting 20 GOP Senators for the 67 votes needed to convict.
It’s about the first defection.

Former GOP Senator John Warner used them in 2006 to describe Iraq. As Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman & former Secretary of the Navy they shook Republicans and were a precursor to Bush losing Congress weeks later.

In 2018 he endorsed Democratic Senator Tim Kaine’s re-election in Virginia, saying, “Integrity and moral character are sorely needed at this most unusual time in our nation’s history.”
Today, Warner signed the letter.
