/ What are uncommon skills that are not commoditized by the industrialization of education. In other words, common core and education is simply democratizing to everyone. What are the areas that can be taught to children that are not common or contrary to your reptilian brain.
/ With ever more education going online, more competition, the common question is how do you guide your own career and how do you educate for the next generation?
/ Conventional argument is more education and more experience. This is predicated on the world being a ladder, where everyone is constantly on the same chain, but with a more transparent society, one can see 7 year olds earning 22million, it's obvious there are other ladders.
/ First realize the limitations of the rational mind, reptilian mind, and the social mind or the ability toward herd behavior. This was popularized with Thinking fast, thinking slow and Girard. We are after all social animals with preservation and heuristics for thinking
/ Traditionally the way to mitigate this is to teach discipline, the value of time, accomplishing more and more things based on a fixed schedule. This assumes a more predictable/industrialized society. Linear vs nonlinear.
/ Traditional education instills the concept of normal distribution and the value of statistics. It undervalues negative black swans and positive black swans. This leads to implicit decision making around key parts of life that are different.
/ These decisions make people favor "short termism", "value decisions through pro and con lists", "buy high, sell low", "fomo".
/ Most people think linearly and use lists to examine pros and cons assuming that everything is equally weighted. Typically one or two things dominate. Example is choosing first job favor geography and industry vs early salary whereas most people weight all of this similar.
/ This is a structural advantage because these are things that kids and people don't do naturally, the meta thinking of what will dominate is something schools, life, and no matter what experience you have will ever teach you.
/ Most of school is centered around progressive levels of abstraction, whereas the usefulness of real life is meta thinking applying abstract thinking to examine oneself, environment, and adjusting OODA loop style.
/ Most schools are focused on short term results (A's) vs understanding the chains of habit, character and the long term compound effects of both and using meta thinking to constantly adjust this.
/ Bubbles tend to over correct where people can't handle the dump and re evaluate their decision. This is the process of building and teaching conviction and the ability to take advantage of the "blood on the street" moments like internet and crypto.
/ The ability to self tune around calmness which is meditation, mindfulness, meditation, treating your brain as a muscle. The ability to be able to handle the vicissitudes of normal life.
/ The ability to learn how to learn, which allows people to climb the technical tree to progressively do harder and harder stuff. There is a perception that the future creatives are non technical, instead it'll be increasingly important to more technical tasks for creativity.
/ Where is this going? In areas of life like work, investing, career choice, love, the ability to apply thinking will allow creation of uncommon skills and compound knowledge that will be unique to you.
/ This is because the knowledge that you learn in specialized college networks will increasingly not be defensible. In fact Adam Grant mentions them that A's has no prediction on career success: nytimes.com/2018/12/08/opi…
/ What do you think are uncommon skills, knowledge, mindset, habits that people can be taught that are uncommon and against your human nature that will always be relevant?
