END OF YEAR THREAD:

2018's top 5 Labour antisemitism evasions

1. Wreathgate

Corbyn: “a wreath was indeed laid” for “some of those who were killed in Paris in 1992”... “I was present at that wreath-laying, I don’t think I was actually involved in it.”
2. Jazzgate

Chris Williamson: "Since then I've learned that Atzmon, a former Israeli soldier, is not confined to the jazz world"

3. Muralgate

Corbyn: “I sincerely regret that I did not look more closely at the image I was commenting on, the contents of which are deeply disturbing and antisemitic”

(although he later wouldn't even say the mural was antisemitic)
4. Facebook groupgate

Corbyn said he had not seen the other antisemitic posts on the group. “Had I seen it, of course, I would have challenged it straight away, but I actually don’t spend all my time reading social media”

5. Ironygate

Corbyn said he used the term Zionist “in the accurate political sense and not as a euphemism for Jewish people”.

He added: “I am now more careful with how I might use the term ‘Zionist’"

As @daverich1 has said...
The thing is, when you're willing to be dishonest to protect your reputation, and your supporters sincerely think you're brilliant, you can get away with this kind of stuff. But eventually good people will understand what's going on.
Argh forgot this one!

6. Christine Shawcroft, chair of Labour's disputes panel, “I sent this email before being aware of the full information about this case and I had not been shown the image of his abhorrent Facebook post” theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
