It is your last day in your old apartment. This house has been both good and bad, filled with all sorts of memories and you do have a couple of testimony from staying here. But, times have changed.

You just got a bigger, more beautiful and most importantly, a better apartment. Whether you want to or not, you just have to move. You have outgrown your former house.

As you gather your belongings in different clearly labeled bags and boxes, you need to ask yourself, "do I really need this at my new place?".
Everything you ever owned might have a sentimental value but it might be of no use in your new home.

There are some items that could have been of a little use in your new house, but better and safer ones have been invented and they don't cost much. Why not just get the new one? It will even serve you better.

You eventually finish packing up and then you begin reminiscing on the many things you have done here.

You remember all of your neighbors, both the good and the bad. Those who have been of help and those who have been a pain. Thankfully, you wouldn't have to see all of them anymore.

One of the advantages of changing houses is that you get an opportunity to choose who you will keep in touch with and who you never have to see again, except for the occasional stumbling into each other.

Moving day is a day of reflection and reminiscing, an opportunity to continuing with what you choose to continue with and end whatever you choose to end.

Today is also the last day of this year, you also happen to be changing "Years". As much as it is a day when you should be counting your blessings from the outgoing year, it is also a very appropriate time to audit your life.

As you go into the new year, what are the habits, thoughts and actions you need to take out of your life? What are those things that need to end with this old year? Habits that are self destructive, time wasting, morale and moral eroding?

Ask yourself, what are the things I need to stop doing in order to hasten my steps towards achieving success in my endeavors? This habits might not even be a sin, but they are just non beneficial to anyone.

After cleaning up your act, it is time to look in the mirror. This time, when you look in the mirror, do not look at your reflection, rather, look at those standing beside and behind you.
Those you associate with play a key role in how your life turns out.

Remember the role Mordecai played in Esther's life and the role the friends of Haman played in his life.
Think again, do you really need all of these friends in your life? The ones who encourage you to sin? The one who ridicules your faith and everything you hold dear?

The one whose appearance is always accompanied by trouble? The one who is always daring you to live on the edge of Christian principles?

The one who can explain away any sin you try to confide in him that you have committed? The one whose advise always turn out to be more destructive than beneficial? Do you really need them in the New Year?

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us , and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)

"Laying aside this weight" the weight might not be a sin in itself, but it could be a gateway to sin. Even when it is not a gateway to sin, it is still an "extra" and "unnecessary" weight.

It is still contributing its quota in holding you back from getting to where you want to get to at the time you need to get there.

Just as an 100-Meter race athlete at the Olympics won't keep hold of any unnecessary item or hanger-on while running on the track, why should you while running the race of your life in this New Year you have been waiting for?

The famine is over, the table is set, we are about to start feasting, truly, All Things Are Now Read.
