Have just seen this quote from the Attorney General’s evidence yesterday (HT @JusticeGap).

“No suffering” as a consequence of cuts is simply untrue. Shame on Geoffrey Cox QC for denying the evidence of countless independent reports and the daily experience of practitioners.
Here, for example, is what the CPS Inspectorate said about Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO) units in 2016.

“All areas are under-resourced for the current volume and even more so for anticipated future increases.”
Or from November just gone, when the Inspectorate found that 78% of letters sent to victims did not meet the quality standard expected.
Or the 2017 Joint Report into disclosure, which observed that communication between the police and CPS was “hampered” by a “lack of resources”.

By all means defend the good work that the CPS does, but don’t insult CPS employees by pretending the cuts haven’t hurt them.
