I’m as skeptical (and frequently horrified) as anyone about Facebook. But criticizing them for hiring a crew of top-tier privacy people seems at best premature. It could be a cynical move or ot could be a sign of progress. Indistinguishable at this point from the outside.
A frequent comment is “they’re only doing this because of regulatory pressure”. But, if so, that’s also a sign that the regulatory pressure is having exactly the intended effect. Only time will tell here.
I apologize if you think my lack of clarity on this is dishonest or disingenuous. I assure it’s simply because I’m too stupid and poorly informed to see things as clearly as you do.
