Mississippi Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves at a Sons of Confederate Veterans event in 2013. SCV is a neo-Confederate org that practices revisionist history casting the South as the good guys, claiming slavery wasn’t the issue in the Civil War. Reeves is a 2019 GOP candidate for governor.

Cindy Hyde-Smith was a Democratic state senator, but after Barack Obama’s election, switched to the Republican Party in 2010.

I learned about the seg academy after she used that strange “public hanging” phrase. Her Jr. High coach remembered the phrase.

Here is a tweet in which Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves praises the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Link goes to the photo above posted on his Facebook page.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans’ official website claims that “the preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South’s decision to fight the Second American Revolution.”

It was organized in Richmond, Virginia—where Ralph Northam serves as governor.
SCV claims the South was fighting for “their belief in the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Reality: The CSA ditched the Constitution & formed a new one enshrining a right to slavery. CSA Vice Prez said the old one was in error bc it assumed the equality of the races:

To be clear: This is not to imply she switched because of Obama directly. She switched right after Republicans pummeled Dems in the 2010 midterms (which happened in reaction to Obama), and this allowed her to run for statewide office as a Republican.

Here is a later tweet in which Pete suggested a “likable” ticket of Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren, instead of the “unlikable” Hillary Clinton.
It’s 2019, and just a day after Elizabeth Warren announced her plan to run for president, Pete was already expressing concern that Dems may repeat the mistakes of 2016 by running an “unlikable” candidate—even though he once suggested Warren as a “likable” alternative to Clinton.

This is the 1st public statement I made to Family on 10/22/17, exactly 1yr after I started remembering the abuse & 7 months after leaving w/out notice. It was my Grandma Mary's birthday. I said aloud to her "You can RIP now, Grandma. I got this." Then I started to #SayBraveThings
I was amazed that literally NO ONE responded. The silence was deafening (sound familiar?) In hindsight I realize they were stunned & unsure of what I remembered. At the time, I knew the only way to make myself safe & get them to back off was to #SayBraveThings & name them.
Over the next 6 weeks, I endured a slew of slanderous, vitriolic attacks from so-called "friends" who cycled through every psychopathic manipulation tactic in the book. Unfortunately for the them, the truth is the truth, & this behavior only revealed their own deceitful nature.

Being overly defensive about an issue automatically makes you biased in your analysis. Denying that #racism is a problem in #Libya is wrong. It is a problem in most if not all societies.
Nevertheless, claiming #slavery is a direct symptom of racism is worse.
Slavery, although motivated by racism, was abolished through legal reform. Racism was not abolished and most probably won't be.
It is 'logical' that in the absence of rule of law & the presence of policies that negatively disrupt migratory flows, slavery COULD reemerge. #Libya
The solution to #migration and #slavery therefore involves tackling different dimensions:
- Short-term: policy changes acknowledging #EU's interception at sea is illegal
- Medium-term: improving #Libya's economic & security capacity as transit state
- Long-term: tackling racism
