So, I've talked about this. We make content. Sometimes it moves forward & sometimes it doesn't. It's the gig. The added frustration for a creator from a marginalized community women/POC/LGBTQIA+/Disabled, etc are these...

Every year we get a fresh chance to try again. It feels good! And, for me personally, I want to tell positive Latinx (Afro-Latinx, Latino-Chino, etc) stories as a priority. I'm trying to infect culture with stories showing our goodness and common humanity.

I get excited about other shows that don't sound like the same show I've seen a zillion times. And I root for those shows. This past week, my three pilots didn't go. It happens. I have lots more to say. I won't shut up. I will write more and sell more. It's all good...but then...

I hear that @Mightypeter didn't get a pickup. And @anjelahjohnson & Isaac Gonzalez & @MexEmilia & @juliagrob didn't get a pickup and my heart hurts. Our hopes are pinned on Valentina Garza & @JennieUrman for the awesome @CWJaneTheVirgin spin-off.

I was talking to one of these writers & they wondered if they should write an op-ed. I wasn't sure. We don't want it to seem like sour grapes. Like, I've said, it's the gig. The gig just has more weight for POC. It's not just telling stories. It's trying to lift up a community.

With our work, we want to entertain but also change the culture. Take hold of our narrative & welcome people to see who we are. From us. So, what can you do? Anyone reading this? Support the shows that make it.

$$ talks. Your eyeballs and views talk. Your tweets and social love talk. We'll keep making the content. We promise. We won't get discouraged. But when we make it, and if you like it, DON'T SHUT UP ABOUT IT.
