Had a really frustrating chat the other day about potential Irish advertisers.“We almost had them but they were scared”was the jist. Podcast has 1 million listeners. It’s insanity. Half of it has to be coz they don’t know what the word podcast is and it seems odd and new to them
The Irish corporate attitude to anything new can be summed up by all the hotels that built IPhone 4 chargers with speaker connectivity into the walls. By the time they make a move, the technology has moved on

Hot take about this meme. It works so well comedically, because we read it from right to left. In cinematography for sitcoms. Regular plot devices enter from left e.g Rachels apartment. Crazy plot devices enter from right e.g Chandlers apartment
This is the XY axis in cinematography. Easily digestible, or likeable, normal, "good guys" enter from left X axis.Because in the west we read easily from left to right. Eccentric, conflict driven information or "bad guys"enter right to left, so we give the Y axis extra attention
To test this out.Try watching something like Fawlty towers flipped horizontally. It feels weird,& doesn't work as well.Basils desk is on the left, he maintains control here.Crazy problems enter from the restaurant on the right and create conflict.Flip it, and it's uncomfortable.

A big theme in my speeches across Western US is the formative impact that Irish people & those of Irish descent have had in shaping modern day Western US. This is very true in #SanFrancisco where there is huge Irish heritage & where we have a vibrant @GlobalIrish community today!
Around 11% of the Bay Area is of Irish descent & there is a large Irish born community too. The people to people connections between the region & Ireland are very strong as evidenced by multiple sister city connections: @sfgov & @corkcitycouncil; @CityofSanJose & @DubCityCouncil
@SantaClaraCity & @LimerickCouncil are sister cities, as are @CityofMenloPark & @GalwayCityCo! Quick shout out to Kathy Watanabe @Carunningmom, the Vice Mayor of Santa Clara with proud #Roscommon heritage. Here’s me meeting with Mayor @LisaGillmor & Kathy earlier this year.

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether

Let me get this straight. Free speech is soooo under threat that intellectuals have formed some sort of "intellectual dark web"... that consists of sold-out packed arenas, podcasts with more listeners than most TV shows and books that hit best-seller lists—and this is "daring"?
Maybe because I'm from the Middle East. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe I have a different sensibility about "free speech under siege" looks like.
"My opinions are not universally fawned over but I get to argue them to millions who buy my books & download my podcasts" is free speech THRIVING.
FWIW, I did write my own "failings of free speech in the digital age article". There is a genuine issue that distribution of attention is becoming monopolized by a few ad-financed platforms. But Trump, not college students at Oberlin, are the president. wired.com/story/free-spe…

Ok, I’ll try and keep this brief, but lets talk PT Cruiser and the 2007 recession. FYI, I’m not *blaming* the crash on the PT Cruiser, just generally laying out how the story of the PT Cruiser and the people who bought them provides an early window into the lending meltdown...
(if you were in the car biz in the 00’s and want to chime in/check my work, feel free...just maybe turn your location off just in case any of your former customers are out there still pissed about what you did to them)
So rewind to the late 90s: economy was strong for a good chunk of consumers (definitely not everyone), and while lending wasn’t the free-for-all it was to become, it wasn’t terribly hard to get financing (again, a good chunk of people, but definitely not all)...
