How will history say what happened here is a question that stays in the mind of military leader as well as political ones. Combimed with the personality a soilder (one with no doubt) and the little fighting experience most army personnel. Military history is one of deception.
"Sweeping judgements, malicious gossip, inaccurate statements which spread a misleading impression; these are the symptoms of the moral and mental recklessness that gives rise to war."
Pattern of dictatorship.
Expediency has rarely proven expedient. Yet, we fall to that pattern of thinking regularly when faced with barriers created by the same population we are to govern.
Victory always sows the seed of a fresh war, because victory breeds among the vanquished a desire for vindication and vengeance and because victory raises fresh rivals. For after any long war, survivors know there are no victors, only common losers.
There is no practical halfway between a peace of true subjugation and a peace of moderation. The former is inpractical with endless difficulties, the later incorporates the losers to maintain the peace
To have peace at the very least:
Study war; keep strong; keep cool; have unlimited patience; never corner an opponent; help him save face; be wary of the idea of victory and of limited & fast wars; and be understanding.
When you think of war, think of its effects. When you forget the effects of war and its weapons, it becomes an idea rather than reality.

End.
