NT! One of the best things about Twitter is making strong connections to people who you may never have had the opportunity to meet otherwise due to circumstances. Things such as distance apart, schedules, having to deal with real life issues.
The beauty of this platform is that you can meet people from around the country, and in many cases, from around the world, people who share similar interests, hobbies, book favorites, movies, foods, etc.
People who have a similar life situation such as you may have, such as a chronic medical condition, whether illness, pain, or both, allowing you to enter into a support situation for each other, or a group of people.
I'm in that group of people, in that I have a chronic illness, and while different from those other people are dealing with, the difficulties of what we go through on a daily basis is pretty much the same.
Without these people who share ... maybe a bad word choice, but I'll leave it ... in these life altering, and they very much *are* life altering, situations ... without them, I don't know where I'd be today exactly, but I do know it wouldn't be a good place.
In the past, I've contemplated very seriously taking my own life many times. Three things prevented me from doing so. One, I'm basically a coward when it comes to inflicting harm on myself. I'm afraid to do that, because of the pain it would cause me.
Two, is what kind of an impact would it have on what family I have left? *I* may have "solved" all of my problems, but what about them? I can't do that to them because of the horrible negative effect it would have on them.
And three, are all of the people here who have supported me so much ... with their kindness and understanding ... their wise council ... their genuine friendship ... and in some cases, their love for me - which literally blows my mind.
Yes, Twitter *can* be a really nasty place, a dumpster fire of epic proportions, but it can also be a wonderful place because of all of the wonderful people that are on this platform, people who become genuine, *real* friends.
For the *real*, genuine friends I've been able to cultivate here, I'm truly grateful ... and humbled ... they have helped me get past so many difficult times in my life, and I will never forget that. I sincerely and humbly thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
As a way of "paying it forward", if any of you are struggling right now, and are contemplating taking the step of making a permanent solution to a temporary problem, *please* reach out to me. My DM's are open, and I promise I'll listen!
Last but not least ...
Nearly 22 Veterans a day commit suicide. Would at least 22 of my friends please copy & tweet? (Not RT)
