NT! Today is #HolocaustRemembranceDay, a day set up by the UN to remember the horrors perpetrated upon the Jews, and others, by the Nazi regime in Germany. This date was chosen as it was the date the last concentration camp ...
Auschwitz-Birkenau, was liberated (by the Soviets) in 1945. With the end of WWII, and the birth of the nation of Israel, there was hope that at long last, the Jews were safe from tyranny, and that anti-Semitism was finally at an end.
That, however, is definitely not the case, as anti-Semitism never died, it simply went "underground" for many years, quietly festering, with the occasional eruption here and there, which were quickly and rightly condemned, and thought ...
To have been squashed "permanently this time". Unfortunately, that again was not the case, and over the past several years, we've seen anti-Semitism rear it's ugly head in Europe (it's never gone away in the Middle East, obviously), and ...
Of late, increasingly here. The virulent hate towards the Jewish people, and to a lesser extend those who support the Jews and Israel, is based entirely on them being "the other", people who need to be "closely watched" because of ...
Their "nefarious plans and plots on world domination through the financial institutions", their "globalistic one world government machinations behind the scenes", and because of personal "characteristics" - their noses, body odor ...
Clothing, dietary habits, and other ridiculous things. Do *some* Jews think and act as "globalists" who want to establish one world government? Probably, but so do some Catholics, some Protestants, agnostics and atheists as well.
It's ridiculous to paint an entire ethnic group with the broad brush of evil intent. It's wrong to do that to African Americans. Asians. Whites. Native Americans. To anybody, and you'll be lectured for doing so by and large by just about everybody.
Except for the Jews. If you paint the Jews with a broad brush of evil intent, you'll get *some* lecturing from *some* people - and rightly so - but not by everyone. No, you'll be praised for doing so, especially if you insert Israel into what you're saying as well.
Somehow, this is becoming "ok" to do in an ever growing circle. How did we get here? Why is it now becoming "ok" to hold on to, and openly express, reprehensible anti-Semitic viewpoints?
We fought WWII to end the despotic reign of terror that had befallen Europe at the hands of the Nazi's, and in large part to end their reign of terror against the Jewish people, along with others, and to quell, and root out, anti-Semitism.
Many of the Nazi concentration camps were not demolished in their entirety so that they could be set aside as memorials to the horrors that were perpetrated within their barbed wire confines, so that we would never forget what happened.
We cannot, *must* not, allow this virulence to continue to fester in our society. We *must* root it out whenever it tries to raise it's ugly head, and call out those - no matter *who* they are - who give credence to this evil way of thinking.
On this #HolocaustRemembranceDay, I call on each and every one of us to commit to seeing that anti-Semitism is excised from our society, to root it out, and eliminate it once and for all, and for us to #NeverForget what this day is all about.
