Just got the best news EVER, after receiving the worst ever. My wife's chemo was finished 2 weeks ago. She got her MRI. It showed the tumor was completely eliminated from the breast tissue and there is nothing in the lymph glands. HOWEVER, they found three spots on the sternum /1
2/ Got that news 7 days ago. These are new spots since October. It is common for breast cancer to go to the sternum. Her type of breast cancer is extremely aggressive, and her life expectancy was reduced to just 1 year (50%) with this news. We've been devastated all week.
3/ We were grieving about her not seeing our two younger children graduate high school. We watched home videos from early in our marriage. We were focusing on all the good she has done in her life. Yesterday she got a PET scan to see if it has already spread to other bones.
4/ If it's only in the sternum, there are new techniques possible. Recently a surgeon removed the entire sternum, dipped it in liquid nitrogen to eradicate the cancer, and reattached it to the ribs with titanium. But we were prepared for the worst news that it had already spread.
5/ So we just got the best news ever. It is NOT spread to other bones. In fact, there is no cancer AT ALL. The lesions on the sternum are not cancer. The oncologist says she cannot believe it, but it is true. The chemo worked. I need that happy+crying emoji that doesn't exist.
