@CivGame : Gathering Storm’s has a regrettable take on migration and cultural loyalty. During last Thursday’s stream, we were asked to vote on the “Migration Treaty” proposal in World Congress. #archaeogaming #stream #twitch 1/5
Initially, it seems this vote is one of @sid_meier’s famous “series of interesting decisions”. In choice A, either you or one of your opponents will enjoy faster growing population with the loss of loyalty leading to unrest or even individual cities breaking away. 2/5
Choice B will increase the loyalty of your citizens, but curb population growth. Looking in more detail, the choice presents a wrong and counterproductive belief about migration: 3/5
that immigrants are de facto less loyal to the civilizations (or nations) they are joining and that this has to be a major cause of societal unrest.
What #Civ6 forces us to take a vote on are two dynamics rooted in #xenophobia. 4/5
Especially in the light of persistent terror and other forms violence perpetrated against migrants worldwide, we would like to call out @Firaxis for this unproductive message on cultural diversity and migration. Please remove the “Migration Treaty” from your game. 5/5
@FiraxisGames (with our sincere apology to @Firaxis, an unconnected, Civ fan account)
