DUP's Jeffrey Donaldson says it wasn't deliberate the border issue became central to Brexit discussions and he regrets that it has.
Donaldson has a cut off Sinn Féin for failing to return to Stormont and "holding us to ransom" to applause from delegates.
Donaldson also points out that DUP does not have seat numbers at Stormont to block progress on issues like same-sex marriage
(If it were restored)
Donaldson says he wants to see Ireland back in the British Commonwealth.

Irish government spokesman says it serves no purpose to speculate about what happens with the border in the event of a no deal Brexit and says it's up to UK to come up with alternatives to avoid hard border if withdrawal agreement rejected.
"We're not putting up border infrastructure," spokesman adds.
"There are no preparations for a hard border."

1. They actually want to avoid a hard border

HoL had tabled an amendment specifying no checks & controls of any sort. Pared-back version offered by govt in compromise was passed.

Lord Duncan said govt accepted thrust of amendment but made 3 changes to ensure it's 'fit for the statute book':
- to reflect fact W'drawal Agmt =btn UK & EU not IRL
- to refer to '98 NI Act re: N/S cooperation
- tighten wording (but said still inc. range of checks/controls)

1/ A small thread on why BOTH many Remainers & Leavers still havent "got" that #Brexit has already failed...
....even if it goes ahead.
& why its often "media noise" rather than "actual lies" is obscuring this & the fact that Brexit wont happen as we thought it would 2 years ago.
2/ Basic Leave idea pre #Brexit vote was that a prosperous UK with large trade deficit eager to retain many European standards wld not really offer a threat to EU was not completely implausible as many remainers assumed.
But it depended on....
3/ Basic #Brexit idea was to convince EU that with a bit of compromise & British payments UK cld leave single mkt but retain full access to it while it worked out its future. Indeed many sensible Leavers didnt want radical change overnight..however there was one small problem....
