Barry Gardiner on @BBCr4today reckons Labour may rule out “extreme” options like no deal or revoke. “Important we’re not see as a Remain party. Labour is not a Remain party now.” Challenged on what Labour would do, if it came down to no deal or revoke, “that’s a tough one”. Wut
Is no deal versus revoke really “a tough one”, Barry? Having a legal framework for trading in services versus not? Five million citizens‘ rights versus a legal void? An uninterrupted supply of insulin versus not? You find these choices “tough”, you noxious, dithering arse polyp?
I cannot wait for the next general election.

MINI-THREAD: I know, absolutely, Labour MPs like @lisanandy, @RuthSmeeth, @DanJarvisMP and others, have a tough choice to make and are trying to do their best. But there are three strategic reasons why they must stay strong and vote AGAINST Theresa May’s Withdrawal Agreement:

1. If Brexit is not delivered, the blame will fall on those expected to support it - Brexiters on the gov’t side. Their side will fragment with recrimination. If Brexit, however, is delivered and goes wrong, the blame will fall squarely on those expected to oppose it. On you.

2. The moment May promised to go, Johnson flipped to supporting her. His ducks are in a row. The risk is clear. By voting for her deal, you may be delivering No.10 to Boris Johnson. None of your Labour voters, however they voted in the referendum, will thank you for that.

Brexiters always reverently quote Sir John Curtice, to say opinion has not changed. Will they quote him today? "Had a second referendum been held last month, 55 per cent would vote in favour of Remain. There must surely now be doubts that leaving is still the will of the people.”
This was his conclusion looking at the huge British Attitudes Survey from last month, as reported on #r4today. I suspect the shift will be more pronounced after this month’s shenanigans.
And just to save you some inane “polls were wrong before the referendum” tweets, while polls have a margin of error predicting any given answer, they are significantly more reliable at tracking *movement* on a question that has been asked consistently over time from a sample.

This drives me nuts. Of course experts, like doctors, sometimes get it wrong, but when you’re sick you don’t go to a mechanic nor take your car to a doctor to fix. Not all views on all matters are equal. Expertise comes from education, hard work and experience. Stop devaluing it.
All Brexit-related matters aside, this attitude is teaching large parts of a generation of kids watching what we say that they don’t need an education, they don’t need to excel in anything, they can just be opinionated bigmouths because that’s just as good.

He said that the public shouldn't be voting on the government's deal, even though conference policy literally says to campaign to let the public vote on the government's deal. #R4today
Seriously. Just shut him up. I don't want to have to keep attacking. It's TWO ***** DAYS from the scheduled Brexit day so
A) Labour should be speaking with one voice
B) Labour conference policy lays out what the voice should be saying now!

READ YOUR OWN POLICY! It explains why the government's deal should be put to the people. It's even quite flippant about that fact. It basically says "if the government's so sure it's what people want..."

Barry Gardiner says that antisemitism in Labour is down to a tiny, tiny minority of party members. That's like claiming that having a tiny, tiny minority of urine in drinking water leaves that water drinkable. #Ridge
(Note: people have quite fairly commented that a bit of urine wouldn't make it undrinkable. True. But knowing it was there and not doing everything possible to filter it out is a PR nightmare.)

How @DailyMailUK twisted the results of @Survation poll and created a nice little frontpage to support Theresa May with some beautiful YESes in red and some lovely supporting words, even though the front page does not actually reflects the results of the poll...
So, let's have a closer look at some of the questions asked and the ACTUAL answers of voters...

1. Worst national leadership in my lifetime forcing through the most damaging, misguided & missold policy I can remember. Ideology & vested self interest replace statesmanship, soundbites replace sound judgement & autocracy subverts democracy.

2. A flawed Leave campaign based on lies, deceit, disingenuity & over simplification & a #Remain one fought w/o any positivity from the Govt & no real commitment from Labour, whose leader was virtually AWOL, did no justice to #Brexit complexity & betrayed our democratic process.
3. A mere 37% of voters/26.5% of the Ppl voted leave in a legally Non-Binding test of public opinion which has been corrupted, on the basis of an illegitimate political promise & interpreted as being the irrefutable Will of the Ppl.
The 1st is insufficient to claim the latter!
