After a close referendum result, chaotic negotiations, vastly different Brexit options in front of us, a country deeply divided over them, a deal which does match the 2016 expectations, confirmed electoral fraud and a total loss of faith in political institutions...
What are the chances that the history books won't view those who argued against letting the people vote to approve or reject the final outcome of the chaos as the ones who ruined UK democracy?
Because, I'll tell you one thing for free. Many people pretend they can't see the difference between a vote on Leave vs Remain in 2016 and a vote after the exit deal has been negotiated. But the history books will see through that immediately.

If you think the UK is divided now, just think about what happens if the deal is voted through by people who have no intention of sticking to it (e.g. Backstop):
A) People will see we've got another 5+yrs of trade talks, with the same arguments played out
B) Leave voters will blame Remain voters for ruining Brexit. Remain voters will blame Leave voters for ruining the country.
C) A significant part of our Parliament will be trying to break the international laws created by the Brexit Treaty in order to undermine the international obligations of the Good Friday Agreement.
Illegally undermining the international community in a way that threatens peace?

How often do you hear me quote economic forecasts?
I don't.
Instead I ask you to use your own logic.
No major economy trades on WTO rules alone.
So to do so would be to do something every successful economy chooses not to do.
No rational person can think that would make us richer
I wish I could quote economic forecasts. I wish that on complex issues, the conclusions of those who have devoted their lives to studying those issues were respected.
But...
Because Cameron chose to politicise the Treasury findings by focusing on the impact of "a vote to leave" to scare people at the ballot box instead of actually leaving (slightly more impactful than ticking a box), all expertise from legal analysis to medical degrees is irrelevant.

A 52% majority in favour of leaving the EU is a justification for seeking a new UK-EU relationship.
It DOES NOT mean 52% wanted a No Deal or a May-Deal relationship.
So it is NOT a justification for ending our current one, UNTIL the public has shown GREATER approval for another.
The logic of that is flawless. And if you ignore it, basic statistics and common sense says we're likely will end up with a relationship that has a lower approval rating than 48%.

As a "contemptuous Remainer", may I assure you that I have considered the implications of "winning", as you put it, very carefully.
First, Remainers long ago gave up the idea of #Brexit being a winner/loser situation. They are all too fully aware that leaving/2
2/ will be nothing but lose/lose all round. Oh, except maybe for those who are trying to avoid the new tax legislation.
Second, the 48% who voted #Remain, and the @the3million and @BritishInEurope who were disenfranchised in the 2016 referendum /3
3/know only too well what it's like to have their vote ignored and their postal votes "lost" or maybe never counted. The BBC & other *impartial* media outlets name them persistently as #Remoaners, if mentioned at all. The PM referred to them as "losers" in the Withdrawal Bill. /4

This is about new leadership for phase 2.
Seems to me that PM is making it conditional on having to get through phase 1 that her general message it is
price she is prepared to pay and that the message of her team is that “this is national interest above personal interest”

A quick thread about 'PROJECT FEAR'. #brexit [1]
2/ before the referendum, both sides undoubtedly exaggerated their positions and stretched the truth. I.E. Vote Leave said Turkey was imminently going to join the EU. While Turkey was/is an EU official accession state, it wasn't and isn't joining anytime soon.
3/ Likewise, remainers claimed there would be an emergency budget and Recession immediately after a vote to leave. Neither have transpired, but it would be false to say there hasn't been a negative effect on the UK economy.

1. Worst national leadership in my lifetime forcing through the most damaging, misguided & missold policy I can remember. Ideology & vested self interest replace statesmanship, soundbites replace sound judgement & autocracy subverts democracy.

2. A flawed Leave campaign based on lies, deceit, disingenuity & over simplification & a #Remain one fought w/o any positivity from the Govt & no real commitment from Labour, whose leader was virtually AWOL, did no justice to #Brexit complexity & betrayed our democratic process.
3. A mere 37% of voters/26.5% of the Ppl voted leave in a legally Non-Binding test of public opinion which has been corrupted, on the basis of an illegitimate political promise & interpreted as being the irrefutable Will of the Ppl.
The 1st is insufficient to claim the latter!
