#RM_Ott19 @mgfortin_rd - #superclusters represent 50K jobs, in 5 clusters receiving a total 1B$ from the government. Today we'll here some of their plans, but it's important to remember that we all have a stake in this.

#RM_Ott19 what is your supercluster, and how will it work differently? @kendmacdonald @CanadaOSC says it will bring together siloed sectors, who have similar goals and who are aiming at the same challenges for Nova Scotia and Canada

#RM_Ott19 BG @proteinindcan says they will improve agriculture to meet increasing global demands, in a resource-aware manner and with suatinability in mind. This is a great challenge, since resources are finite and food needs are incredibly high

#RM_Ott19 @julienbillot the AI supercluster @AISupplyChain aims at improving supply chains, and understands that AI can benefit not just large companies - also SMEs.

#RM_Ott19 Sue Paish says @DTSupercluster is about leveraging data for digital technology and to take advantage of the great skills and talent we have in Canada and in BC.

#RM_Ott19 @JaysonMyers_ if manufacturing superclusters says today's greatest resources, data and IP, can significantly improve manufacturing sector ➡️ Canada faces both challenges and opportunities to scale up SMEs & broadly improve skillsets of the people who can pull this off

#RM_Ott19 Sue Paish says Canada is seen as a country that is nice, by that doesn't get much done. We are not leading in OECD, and #superclusters can address this ➡️ these aren't funding programs, there co-funding programs. Evaluation is on output and outcome delivery, not input.

#RM_Ott19 JB @AISupplyChain says we too often lose companies to foreign buying and scaling power. Addressing this challenge is part of the mandate of #superclusters, as conveners of innovative companies. JM (Manufacturing) agrees, fostering innovative startups and skills is key

#RM_Ott19 KM @CanadaOSC superclusters bring global relevance to Canada's skillsets in key areas, and this can change the game in how we view competition and collaboration. We shouldn't be competing across provinces, we should collaborate to face larger competition worldwide

#RM_Ott19 JM : It's the end user of a technology or product that creates value, and so the most important mindset change for the future manufacturing is, how can we take advantage of data and disruptive technology with the end user in mind.

#RM_Ott19 SP @DTSupercluster - the word "collaboration" is so easy to say. We need to agree on what it means, and what it should mean for #superclusters. This is an industry led initiative (w/ partners like @ISED_CA) with funding structure driven on outcomes and milestones.

#RM_Ott19 ... and therefore it's important to realize that "collaboration" isn't about 10 ppl in a room agreeing that 1+1=2. It's about working together, building on each other's strengths, and innovating in a way that our collaboration leads to greater outcomes, so 1+1 can = 3

#RM_Ott19 @mgfortin_rd asks what the next 4 years of this 5 year looks like (though SP @DTSupercluster says it's 105 year program, very forward looking)

JM says bringing people together is still at the core of #superclusters. Already they're seeing companies work better together

#RM_Ott19 ... even companies across a parking lot from each other may not have the chance to meet in other circumstances. Fostering new collaboration is hard to predict, but by building capacity for it, these connections can happen

#RM_Ott19 Dave Watters asks, how can the 5 #superclusters work together? SP @DTSupercluster says all of the the panelists here, the CEOs of superclusters, have a 5-way call every Wednesday. This relationship is building more and more, and connections are happening in real time

#RM_Ott19 Audrey Mascarenhas from @questortech asks how a 🇨🇦 SME can get involved with #superclusters? JB @AISupplyChain says single companies won't get funding, but can engage to start collaborations. SP @DTSupercluster adds that any company can sign up on supercluster websites

#RM_Ott19 where does college talent fit in, asks @ChristineTrautt? SP @DTSupercluster says it's recognized that 🇨🇦 is leader in education, but we need to retain talent. BG @proteinindcan and JB @AISupplyChain note their respective strategies for talent development, to train grads

#RM_Ott19... JM says they have had tremendous support from colleges, universities, and institutions. Colleges can help a lot w/ linking talent for experiential learning & #WIL, and colleges could help w/ providing digital skills training for trades and manufacturing
