This is a little weird, not the scheme but how did it continue? Suspect was raided in 2011 & 2012. They found $1.7M worth of counterfeit parts, yet no mention of prosecution. He just switched to shipping his products to another state & changed the name of his company.
How do you get caught with $1.7M in counterfeit parts & no one gets prosecuted until 2016 for one person & 2019 for the ring leader.
How does your supplier admit to selling you almost $19M in counterfeit parts in his guilty plea & no one prosecutes you for almost 3 years? I wonder if someone was protecting this operation? Were some of those counterfeit parts loaded with spyware?
Now the press release for that plea deal doesn't mention the $19M in parts discussed in the new indictments. It may still be in the plea deal but the US Attorney didn't mention it. They discuss a different $1.5M supply operation & the suspect forfeited $1.5M as part of his plea.
So why bust him & have him brag about the $1.5M deal but not cover the $18.7M deal that continued until December 2018? It may have just been that it was still an active investigation into other players. But it makes no sense to let it go from 2011 to 2019 unless something is up..
The 2 US Attorney's involved in the 2016 guilty plea may explain the secrecy. Both appear to still be at the @USAO_LosAngeles office. They also both seem to be involved in the prosecutions for the #FatLeonard scandal. This is a gigantic US Naby bribery & corruption scandal.
I have never dug deeply on this scandal but it is huge, over 60 US Navy Admirals have been suspects in this case. Taking payoff & gifts for contracting deals. Probably compromised every one of them to Pacific based hostile foreign intelligence agents. ibtimes.com/what-fat-leona…
