Crossrail looks like it is now going to be delayed until Spril 2021 (it was due to open at the end of 2018). We are rubbish rubbish rubbish at large-scale projects in the UK, so don't talk to me about a Brexit unicorn frictionless Irish border, or HS2.

Crossrail was going well until they actually tried running some trains (dynamic testing), at which point things started "proving more difficult than was first thought". Sounds an awful lot like Brexit, doesn't it? Our recent history is littered with things like that.
So why does it keep happening? Because political accountability isn't the same as real accountability. And because people act as if ignorance trumps expertise. The less you are sullied with knowledge, the more you're free to pontificate on the matter.
And the other commonality with Brexit? The problems were enormously obvious (even today several stations haven't been finished) yet the prospect of a delay was only aired in public mere weeks before Crossrail was supposed to open the first time.

Different Labour politicians are all busking for their particular Brexit worldviews. They cover the spectrum from strong remainers like @Andrew_Adonis to arch leavers like @KateHoeyMP so the only way to interpret Labour's Brexit stance is to look at their official position.
And Labour's official position remains pro-Brexit. They have yet to commit at a manifesto level to holding a second referendum, and repeatedly state they honour the result of the 2016 referendum.
So if you care about Brexit above all else, vote for an explicitly pro-remain party in the European elections. Don't vote for Labour, vote for Change UK TIG, the Lib Dems, the Greens, the SNP or Plaid Cymru.

Imagine that entrants to the Olympic 100m sprint were decided like Brexit. "I'm just an ordinary guy, but 52% of people voted for me so you should let me race."
"But you're not going to win."
"52%..."
"You're not even competitive."

"Ok, go right ahead."
[9.7 seconds later]
"No fair, I only covered half the distance everyone else did!"
"52% got you into the race, but after that you were on your own. A vote can't give you athletic prowess you never had."
"But..."
"No buts, that's just reality."
Brexit is exactly the same. The referendum result may give us Brexit, but it can't magically give us a successful Brexit. No causal connection between the two.

52% of voters who voted voted for Leave in 2016. But that was just 37% of the registered electorate, and just 26.7% of the UK population taken as a whole. So the "majority of people in the UK" have never wanted Brexit, and repeating that lie a million times doesn't make it true.
And while we're on Brexit games with numbers, the referendum was never the "largest democratic mandate in our history". More votes were cast in the 1992 GE, and a higher turnout was achieved in the Scottish indie ref, and *many* GEs.
It is true that Leave achieved the highest total number of votes in 2016 for a given choice of outcome, but that's because a referendum only has two choices vs the multiple choices of a GE. Overall, more people participated in 1992.

A few thoughts about the Fourth Flood… what we’re seeing right now isn’t anything like Harvey or Allison; its not even Tax Day or Memorial Day. But it’s still showing us some really issues we need to deal with.
Right now, the @hcfcd website (with its live stream gauges and really useful new live inundation feature) is showing all the bayous within their banks. harriscountyfws.org
The @RiceUniversity SSPEED Center’s Flood Alert System on Braes Bayou is predicting that flows past the Med Center will peak around 2:00 pm. (We need one of these predictive systems on every bayou!)

OK, here’s a little thread about work.

Before I worked in games, I was a manager at Google and Facebook - responsible for teams, people and large-scale projects.
I learned a lot about work & what I believe it is to be a good worker.
So when I talk to my students now, it upsets me hugely to see the ways in which the education system fails young people.
We teach them how to use specific software, how to write a CV, etc.
But we do not teach them what it is to be a good worker, a good team member.
So, here's my list of the traits of a good worker.
I no longer hire people (I’m just renting my high-horse for this evening), but if I did, these are traits I'd be questioning for & looking out for in probation.
These traits transcend profession and are valid in any industry.
