Short thread on #LabourAntisemitism

This week sees the start of Passover, so naturally we Jews do some thinking about the nature of our particular situation and history.
This year, as in the last 4 years, my thoughts turn to the current wave of anti-Jewish racism from the Left.
For all sorts of reasons, I’ve had to put my fight against the racists on the Left on the back burner recently. But this week I decided to have a brief look at the social media profiles of some Labour councilors/candidates to see what the mood was.
Obviously, I have come across a couple of obsessive haters of all things Jewish and Israeli. These will be reported via the appropriate channels.
I’ve also come across a good few who, whilst not obsessive & not overtly racist, parrot the simplistic “Free Palestine” mantra.
I’m all in favor of a free Palestine of course. But my approach differs from those Labour candidates in that I do not see the blame for the lack of a free Palestine as solely down to what Israel does or does not do.

Anyway, so much for that group of Labour candidates.
The most revealing insight into where we Jews find ourselves today was not provided by the few toxic cases or the more numerous casually ignorant partisans.
No - it was provided by the rest of the Labour candidates that I had a look at.
On the subject of the anti-Jewish racism...
..that has plagued Corbyn’s Labour for nearly 4 years, the overwhelming characteristic of these Labour candidates was:

Silence.

Total and utter silence.

No show of solidarity with a minority under attack.
No concern expressed about the nature of their party.
No disgust.
Just silence.
As if it isn’t happening.
Because to get involved would be unseemly.
It might be provocative or controversial.
It might be unpopular amongst the comrades.
It might mean acknowledging that it was really happening.

It might mean being a “resistor”.
So here’s my Passover observation:

The self declared angels of the Left are - in an uncomfortable inversion of the Passover meaning - “passing over” us Jews. It’s as if our homes don’t exist. We are like ghosts to them. We Jews and our pains and anxieties don’t really exist.
So, that’s the extent of my insight.
I don’t really exist.
And as we sit down to our Seder tomorrow, 3 generations of Jews who don’t exist, we’ll carry on not really being there, just like the generations before us.
