1 Sep 1, 2014: Modi briefed his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on his initiative for Smart Cities and renewal of heritage cities, including the city of Varanasi. The two signed an agreement to promote partnership city arrangement between the ancient cities of Varanasi and Kyoto.
2. November 8, 2014: PM Narendra Modi wielded a spade to remove silt deposited along the banks of river Ganga to formally launch Swachh Bharat campaign in his Lok Sabha constituency.
3. November 8, 2014: PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Trade Facilitation Centre and Crafts Museum, and inaugurated the Powerloom Service Centre in Varanasi.
4. December 25, 2014: PM Narendra Modi launched the Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching at the Swatantrata Bhawan in Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
5. September 18, 2015: PM Narendra Modi launched a financial inclusion initiative in Varanasi. A total of 101 e-rickshaws, 501 pedal rickshaws and push-carts were given as part of this initiative
6. January 22, 2016: PM Narendra Modi attended a Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for distribution of aids and assistive devices in Varanasi. He complimented the Railways for the launch of the Mahamana Express with modern passenger amenities, which he flagged off on the occasion.
7. May 1, 2016: PM Narendra Modi launched a scheme for e-boats in Varanasi, took a boat ride.
8. October 24, 2016: PM Narendra Modi unveiled several development schemes in Varanasi. These included the dedication of 765/400 KV GIS Varanasi Power Sub-station; laying of foundation stone of Varanasi City Gas Distribution Project; inauguration of Varanasi Postal Region;
9. Expansion Project of Diesel Locomotive Works (Phase 1); laying of foundation stone for second line and electrification of Allahabad-Varanasi Rail Line; and setting up of Perishable Cargo Centre at Rajatalab Railway Station.
10. December 22, 2016: PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Centre and the Centenary Super Speciality Hospital at BHU.
11. September 22, 2017: PM Modi dedicated to the nation the Deendayal Hastkala Sankul – a trade facilitation centre for handicraft – at Varanasi. He also flagged off the Mahamana Express through a video link.
12. July 14, 2018: PM Modi inaugurated, or laid the foundation stones of important projects, cumulatively worth over Rs 900 crore, in Varanasi. Among the projects inaugurated were the Varanasi City Gas Distribution Project and the Varanasi-Ballia MEMU train.
13. The foundation stone was laid for the PanchkoshiParikrama Marg, and several projects under the Smart City Mission and Namaami Gange. The PM also laid the foundation stone for an International Convention Centre in Varanasi.
14. September 18, 2018: Among the projects inaugurated were the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for Puraani Kashi; and an Atal Incubation Centre at BHU. Among the projects for which the foundation stone was laid was the Regional Ophthalmology Centre at BHU.
15. November 12, 2018: PM Modi dedicated, inaugurated or laid the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 2,400 crore. He dedicated the Multimodal Terminal on the River Ganga, to the nation, and received the first container cargo.
16. He inaugurated the Varanasi Ring Road Phase 1, and the development and construction for four laning of Babatpur-Varanasi Section of NH-56.
