Chernow, being a brilliant historian, already knows this...

... But Roosevelt led a systematic attack on the press during his presidency.
"In the 1936 election, Roosevelt claimed that 85 percent of the newspapers were against him."
"Writing for TheWashington Post in 1938, Harlan Miller commented that Roosevelt only answered questions which enabled him to "utter an oral editorial.…He selects only those on which he can ring the bell.""
"He also gave special access to pro-administration outlets, such as J. David Stern's Philadelphia Recordand Marshall Field's Chicago Sun. Another Field publication, PM, was probably the closest facsimile to a New Deal Breitbart."
"Over a nearly three-month period at the end of 1935, FCC and Black Committee staffers searched great stacks of telegrams in Western Union's D.C. office. Operating with virtually no restriction, they read the communications of sundry lobbyists, newspaper publishers... "
I don't want to take a deep dive, but Jefferson attacked the press too...

Yes, guys... I know FDR isn't on Mt. RUSHMORE.

The point is our great Presidents (on Rushmore or not) attacked the press too...lying about that doesn't help.

Unless people are saying FDR want a great President.
Wasn't...
But the way, Chernow's hero, Grant... Regarded journalists as spies.

Even his book says so.

And progressive hero Wilson... Do we even have to go there?
