Wait until all these HBO Chernobyl lovers find out what the US ruling class has done about Climate Change over the last 40 years.
the reality is that if Chernobyl had happened on US soil (as did so many other similar incidents) the US would've put less effort into preventing the crisis unleashed by it and been more effective at covering it up, erasing it from history & quashing dissent related to it.
We're still sitting here, 40+ years after US fossil fuel companies knew for a fact that climate change was an impending unparalleled ecological disaster & debating whether it's *even real*, because under capitalism, corporations get to drive ruling class thought & propaganda
Look at how quick capitalist governments respond to shit like poisoned water supplies in Flint and on Reservations. Look at how well we care for the people of the Marshall Islands who've been exposed to untold radiation from our nuclear testing.
3,000 fucking people died in Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico, about 2,900 of those were completely preventable deaths if we've had a government committed to an adequate response and not played games and covered up the reality of what was going on.
and that doesn't even deal with the fact that if we had a ruling class that wasn't so committed to climate denialism that the hurricane would have never had that magnitude in the first place.
