I’m building a library as well but single volume histories of Russia Vernadsky is your guy, and his unfinished ten volume on Russia.
In addition Vernadsky’s colleague, Mikhail Karpovich, a reformed Right SR who grew more right over time, wrote an excellent one volume on empire.
