This is a great piece by @tribelaw outlining how House Democrats can pursue an impeachment inquiry, without it necessitating a Senate trial and acquittal, which Trump might spin as vindication:

Allowing the preordained fact of Senate acquittal to dictate what the House does with its institutional authority in terms of an impeachment inquiry is highly problematic.

A glaring absurdity:

Trump is threatening to prosecute Democrats, accusing them of treason, and treating all oversight requests as illegitimate.

Meanwhile, he's demanding constructive engagement from Dems on things *he* desperately needs for reelection:

Here's the thing.

A deal for Trump on infrastructure, and a renegotiated NAFTA, would go a long way towards addressing his biggest weaknesses heading into reelection.

Let's be clear on what the White House is really arguing.

Their claim: The Dem effort to flesh out the Mueller report *to secure our elections from outside attack* is not a legitimate legislative purpose.

WH should be pressed to justify this.

1. Lots of people, based on this week's shitshow, have asked "can a Supreme Court Justice be impeached?" And the answer is YES; the Constitution says any officer of the federal government who commits "high crimes and misdemeanors" can be impeached (indicted) & tried by the Senate
2. Not only CAN a SC Justice be impeached, but one has, actually. Samuel Chase, a Maryland Federalist (and by all accounts, a supreme jerkface), was impeached and tried in 1804-early 1805. He was acquitted, but there's more to the story. I WROTE ABOUT THIS THING ONCE WOO HOO 😁
