A senior official just texted me asking "did Greenblatt really just say there's no such thing as settlements?" But I'm not sure at this point anyone is following. He could have said he supports the Palestinian right of return and no one would have noticed.

It's 23:10 and they're screening a clip of a bicycle race in the streets of Jerusalem. The perma-tanned billionaire is still speaking and after a head-count I can confirm there are now more staff than guests here. Literally no one left to applaud.

And at 23:20 it's finally over with a dispirited rendition of "Hallelujah" a group of exhausted children waving US and Israel flags on the stage and as a prize for the handful who made it to the end, they've finally re-opened the bar.

This was supposed to be an event marking the "endurance" of the Israel-US relationship. If Haley's stoic willingness to still pose for selfies after sitting through all this, is anything to go by, then enduring is the word.

Going through my notes. The dance troupe that did a number on-stage during the Adelson-Haley-Bibi festival of love is called "Pyromania" and that's the least bizarre detail of tonight.
