Brief thread on terminology clarification. When i talk about treating China as an adversary or enemy, in case I'm not clear, i always mean the CCP and existing government or power structure and the objectives they have set out. I absolutely do not mean the Chinese people 1/n
I met a Chinese person recently and they were almost apologizing for any racial treatment i might have suffered in China. I stopped them and said honestly, i never had a problem with anything like that and if i did i was too stupid to notice. My colleagues, people in 2/n
my building, my kids friends, and their teachers, and parents were all great. They would tell me I'm a bad parent for not bundling them up when it dropped to 75 degrees, but no complaints. The CCP is an enemy and an adversary not just of freedom loving Americans but the 3/n
Chinese people. I'm not going to apologize for that or change that position. The second point of clarification is about signers if the open letter. To me, they're are to groups on the open letter. First, there are people that i think have a clear eyed view of 2019 CCP China 4/n
And the tradeoffs that needed to be made to challenge Beijing and the threats they pose. The second group is marked by willingness to make any concession in the name of harmony, financial interests in China (yes, it's true), and a willful inability to recognize 5/n
the factually reality of CCP China and the evil they bring viewing the problems as either annoyances that can be smoothed over with a breakfast at the Ritz or blaming the Trump administration. Some these people have long track records of creating the problem that exist today 6/n
Twitter may not be the best place for nuance and i apologize if my meaning isn't always clear. That's my fault. I can tell you the hardest part of leaving China was telling my kids because they liked living in China and had friends. We need to recognize the reality of the threat.
