1/ Here at @ProPublica, we've been documenting hate incidents using tips from the public. It turns out that "go back to your country" or "go back to [X] country" is one of the most common phrases we've identified in the @DocumentHate tips database.
2/ Yesterday, President Trump said in a tweet that four congresswomen of color should "go back" to the countries they came from. (Three of the women were born in the US.)
3/ Let's take a look at just how common this language is. Here are examples from just a few of our 170 newsroom partners 👇🏽👇🏽
4/ @UniNoticias interviewed dozens of people who said they'd been told this phrase, from Pennsylvania to Georgia to West Virginia.
