Just compared some salary trends between Chennai and Luru and for same roles with similar experience, Luru pays 40% more. It could be niche technologies not available in Chennai, but still the difference is stark . And Hyd, Gurugram eclipsing Chennai is no surprise !

Salary upwards of 20+ L is really becoming sparse and 25+ is like a rare occurrence for senior roles. Essentially these are non-existence in Chennai market. Probably good time for start ups and others to shift to Chennai barring the infra/water challenges !

Office leasing space in million sq ft for April- June 2019 . Chennai at the bottom with dearth of quality 'A' grade office spaces. Chennai missed the boat by good 10 years!

2) Mumbai: 3.42
3) Delhi NCR: 3.4
4) Hyderabad: 2.57
5) Pune: 2.04
6) Chennai: 1.45

One of the biggest challenges is for people to realize how much bad govt policies and lackluster attitude help to squander job opportunities within state. It is phenomenal. We may have been after Bangalore around early 2000 and all other cities have moved miles ahead!

IMO Chennai really started well ahead of the curve with Tidel park. Followed it up quickly with expansions in all directions like OMR , GST - Mahindra City and Porur - DLF. But then every thing started to move at snail pace. Not sure what is exactly the root cause !

I think in addition to Govt's apathy n belief that private investment would come of its own accord , there has been too much focus on social welfare and populism that has destroyed the state. Other than Oragadam Automobile Industrial cluster , there is nothing much to talk about

Tamil Nadu is slowly becoming like Kerala. Our only option is move to other states for work and keep saying 'Tamil Daw' and keep browbeating on our past achievements of emerging well ahead on social welfare indicators. But even to run them , the Govt needs money in its coffers ?

To think about how great leaders work ? Naidu requested for 10 min meeting with Gates and ended up spending 40 mins showcasing his plans for e-governance . Gates super impressed agreed to set up M$ office in Hyd . Now Google, Amazon and Apple, Uber choosing Hyd as first choice !

Probably the only face saving that Chennai has as of today are its unique SAAS business, primarily due to Zoho and FreshWorks. I do not know how they are going to pan out , but must thank heavens for their amazing work towards building and nurturing an ecosystem of entrepreneurs

With the planned new IT parks in various stages of construction all around the city, I hope the city tries to salvage what ever is left . Quite a few captives are setting up shops here due to lower cost(duh) again. Hope it revitalizes the economy and bring in network effects!
