It's not about liking people. Johnson has nailed himself into a corner, and it must have been deliberate.

He came in promising to pursue Brexit no matter what. We can't go anywhere before November, and parliament is shut until September, so everything we see and hear for the next month is posture.
So he'll spend the next month stirring up all sorts of blather about no deals, and the media will obediently repeat it because they've got nothing better to do
And then in September he'll call a general election, having established his Euro-sceptic credentials, and then he'll put in his manifesto . . .

I could be wrong, but the impression I get is that the Tories are going to hold a general election, and offer another referendum in their manifesto.
That's the only good plan I can see out of all the things he's done. So I'm guessing it must be that.
