Warren, in turn, says in her opening statement than anyone on this stage would be a better president than Donald Trump

Obviously I think this would be civically worthwhile, but also Trump has pretty thoroughly established that the structural lopsidedness of the electoral college means he doesn’t need a single thing from progressives to win re-election.
(whether that’s good for the long-term stability of the democracy is another question, but here we are)
This giant nation of ours has grown massively diverse and complicated but the reality is that we are going to spend the next year psychoanalyzing the breakfast choices of every single white person in Wisconsin, because they’re currently holding the keys to the car.

A frank look at how the new @latimes is doing. We need digital subscriptions to survive, but we’re dealing with a lot of “churn” from new readers signing up and then canceling. Figuring out the new world of paywalls is pretty hard, but we gotta get there. niemanlab.org/2019/07/the-l-…
A couple things: it’s really hard to overstate how ravaged the business side of our company was before the sale, and rebuilding it has *not* been easy. But also, speaking as a grunt here, the investment in the newsroom has been really fun and journalistically invigorating.
Anyway, it’s not sustainable for journalism just to expect billionaires to sink endless money into a pit without seeing great progress. So for a bunch of different reasons, I’m hopeful we can keep figuring it out.

I think there is a Marianne Williamson consensus forming and if I were to sum it up: it’s not clear if she has a real voting base but she talks about Democrats’ trauma from the Trump era on a therapy level when the other candidates’ proposed fixes are very much materialist.
Like, Warren has plans for how to reshape the economy and so forth, while Williamson, gliding on her own karmic wavelength, is like, “nobody really cares about plans, you’re all scared of Trump, and has anybody who loves you really talked to you about how fucked up you’ve been?”
Anyway, if you drop the woo-woo subtext, a lot of normie reporters have been out dowsing America’s proverbial ley lines and have a similar analysis, which is that Dem voters do care about policy, but many most deeply care about finding whatever magic potion will get rid of Trump.

I've written about #Sanders over the years and like most leftists, thought his politics were an essential prod to others in Congress. But there are details of his political history here that #Bernie should be pushing instead of hiding: like that he was a Harvard fellow.

#Sanders is often presented as s spendthrift, but what propelled #Bernie from 3-term mayor of tiny Burlington into the House was his fiscal responsibility. He literally was deemed the Republican Trotskyite while mayor for reeling in spending and building the city's coffers.

The insistence by white male writers that there is a two-white-man race out there between Bernie & Beto is so deeply, stunningly misogynist, it takes my breath away.

How is it POSSIBLE that these folks missed the blue wave which was fundamentally female--driven by women voters?
Not just driven by women voters, but driven by women candidates. Left-leaning women candidates, including WOC who ousted long-time older white male incumbents like....Bernie Sanders.

How is anyone missing this fact?
It's a major reason why Sanders' numbers have plummeted.

1. Some time ago I cautiously and presumptuously stated that Hillary would consider a 2020 run.
I made that somewhat hackneyed prediction based upon her sudden & repeated public appearances tugging at the heartstrings by highlighting the plight of inner city children.
2. Very recently this theory has been lent further credence by Michael Goodwin's article.
It describes an escalating pattern that I identified in its nascence.
