EU27 leaders often give the impression they think of the EU as something every European country has a moral obligation to belong to if it can, as if it's purely up to the EU who's in or not, rather than a club or agreement countries can join or not join as they themselves see fit
Leaving the EU is not some wickedness the UK needs to atone for, & we aren't obliged to duplicate all the consequences of EU membership in some other way.
Being EU members had implications for how Ireland & the UK interacted. The UK is leaving the EU, so the way Britain & Ireland interact will change. That's not somehow improper or something the UK should apologise or compensate for. We're entitled to leave when we choose to do so.
Ireland is not entitled to pretend that the UK's staying in the EU is part of the Belfast Agreement, & to try to stop the UK (which includes NI) truly leaving the EU on that basis. We're leaving. That means things will change. This is happening. Get over it.
If Ireland wants to reduce the impact on it that Brexit will have, it should support a UK-EU FTA.
