*sigh*

Okay, again. The presidential records act doesn't forbid deleting tweets. For real. It doesn't. No, not even when he uses Twitter for official business. They are presidential communications and must be preserved but that doesn't mean "kept on Twitter".
If anything, the tweet being up is inadequate to fulfill the PRA. It's not a record, it's not something in the White House's power to control or maintain. If Twitter went belly up tomorrow, all those "records" would be gone.

That's not what archiving is.
I know challenging these silly little myths is like a resistance third rail, and if I cared about hashtag clout and growing followers at all cost I would never stop to point this out.

But we should be savvier than this.
Would I swear that his people are archiving all tweets properly? No. Not on your life. And that might be a violation of the records act. But a communication is exempt if the archivist deems it not worthy of preservation, and deleting to fix a typo or whatever? Probably qualifies.
I mean, he has literally eaten his notes to keep them from being preserved, so. No question it's being broken daily.

But a process to scrape his tweets wouldn't have to involve him or his knowledge, so it could be happening.

And if they're not being archived, that and not the fact that some get deleted, would be the violation.
